fluidity & The Fluid Systems
We are made up of around 60% liquid. From interstitial fluid (the fluid that surrounds and nourishes our cells) to the steady flow of spinal and lymphatic fluids (fluids that circulate around the spine and in the immune system) to the changeable flow of blood (the fluid that carries oxygen and nutrients throughout our body). Embodying these different fluid qualities enables us to bring ease and flow in life.
Focus: Improving circulation, lymphatic flow, and overall body fluidity.
Let us first, bring awareness to the spine and to the top of the spine where the brain floats in cerebrospinal fluid (a special fluid that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord). Imagine the slow flow of fluid gently moving down through your spine. When you reach the tail bone, bring your awareness back to the head.
You can try moving with your breath: breathe out as the fluid flows down and breathe in as you bring your focus back to the top of the spine.
Now, begin to move your spine slowly. Let it flow forwards, backwards, side to side, up and down. Bend, twist, stretch, and release. Find a rhythm and flow that feels right for you.
Allow your movements to come from your body and return to it. Explore both your upper and lower body.
Play with the speed and direction of your movements. Try surprising yourself by changing direction suddenly or coming to a quick stop. How does it feel when you suddenly change direction or stop moving?
When you're done, come to stillness and notice: do you still feel the flow of movement in your body?
